Description
5 x 3 hours (09.30-12.30)
The Introduction to Counselling Theory is so interesting and relevent to understanding humans – please tell me if you’d like me to run it for you. I love teaching it!
It will include teaching and demonstration, group discussion, learning from listening to yourself and others and an Encounter Group. All reading will be provided.
Due to the personal development work involved, this course may not be suitable for those who are emotionally stretched at the moment. Please contact me if you’re concerned about whether you can meet the emotional demands of this course.
I shall be using aspects of Rogers’ Personality Theory as a foundation stone when using counselling skills as a member of the pastoral care team at the hospital. I now have a greater understanding of my own background and can recognise the assumptions I have previously made based on my own experience.
I found Andrea telling us some personal examples of conditions of worth very useful. In fact, I think the whole explanation(s) of the personality theory was delivered in such a way that I could understand it. It was clear! I didn’t feel overloaded.
The tutor enabled me to become more knowledgeable on person-centred counselling but it was her role in facilitating the space and support for the whole group that meant we were more open and trusting with each other and so I could learn from the group’s responses as well.
Encounter Day was exhausting but exhilarating at the same time.
I felt the group was safe environment to explore myself and challenge my perceptions of others.
Great variety of exercises to keep me thinking – never boring! Impressed with Andrea’s knowledge of theory and her ability to convey it to others.
This course can be taken alongside The Introduction to Counselling Skills (25hrs), the latter of which is a compulsory foundation for the Norwich Centre Certificate in Counselling Skills.
